The proposed Camp 8 South Timber Harvest Plan (THP) threatens some of the steepest, most fragile terrain in Jackson Demonstration State Forest. Located above the North Fork of the South Fork Noyo River, this portion of the forest includes critical wildlife habitat and some of the oldest undisturbed second-growth redwood stands in the region.

Key concerns include:

  • Tractor yarding on unstable slopes near watercourses—risking landslides, erosion, and sedimentation into sensitive streams.

  • Logging in a Late Seral Development (LSD) zone that is already showing signs of natural recovery and should be protected, not disturbed.

  • Disturbance of rare second-growth redwood stands and wildlife habitat, including areas used by Northern Spotted Owls and Pileated Woodpeckers.

  • New road construction in areas with fragile, friable soils that will take centuries to recover if damaged.

The JAG is the public advisory body for CAL FIRE’s decisions in Jackson Forest. They must hear your voice!

🗓️ Submit comments by June 20 or provide oral comments at the JAG meeting!
