Action Alert: Tell the US Forest Service "No" herbicides in Mendocino National Forest
On over 10,000 acres of the Mendocino National Forest, there are roughly 2,000 known invasive plant infestations. Species like Scotch broom, Himalayan blackberry, and cheatgrass threaten native ecosystems, increase wildfire risk, and harm water quality. The Board of Forestry is pushing forward a controversial proposed rule-making under the guise of wildfire risk reduction, which would allow logging and use of heavy equipment—including tractors and dozers—in Watercourse and Lake Protection Zones (WLPZ). This rule-making is a dangerous attempt at deregulation that isn’t backed up by science.
