ACTION ALERT: Attend the Community Forum opposing Offshore Drilling

Our oceans are under attack, and we need you to show up and fight back!

On November 20, 2025, the Trump Administration released its draft 11th National Outer Continental Shelf Leasing Draft Proposed Program. The program proposes to lease the North Coast of California for offshore oil drilling. Disasters from the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico to the Santa Barbara oil spill of 1969 have proven time and time again that offshore oil drilling cannot be accomplished without serious risks to our oceans. Not to mention, investing in new drilling infrastructure locks our economy into using dirty fossil fuels for decades, exacerbating the climate crisis. California has long opposed new offshore oil drilling off its coast, but the Trump Administration believes it can force the state to accept these risks. The rushed public comment period for the program ends on January 23rd, and we encourage you to submit public comments voicing your opposition.

Because the Trump Administration is not organizing any kind of in-person opportunity for public comment, EPIC, Surfrider Foundation, and Humboldt Waterkeeper have decided to organize our own Community Forum where North Coast residents can register their concerns. The event will be attended by Congressman Jared Huffman and other local leaders, who will share their efforts to combat Trump’s attacks on our ocean and climate. There will also be an opportunity for North Coast residents to share their own thoughts and opinions on Trump’s brazen push for offshore oil drilling.

The event will be held at the Wharfinger Building, 1 Marina Way, Eureka, CA 95501, on Sunday, January 18th, at 10:00 a.m. Snacks and coffee will be provided.

Please join us to share your concerns and learn more about what can be done to prevent this.

We are also in need of volunteers for this event. If you are interested and available, please email Cecilia at cecilia@wildcalifornia.org
