Join EPIC and RIPE for a hands-on habitat restoration work focused on protecting local trees from invasive ivy. This is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, support native ecosystems, and connect with fellow community members who care about Humboldt’s forests.
Location
Humboldt County Office of Education
901 Myrtle Ave, Eureka, CA 95501
Parking & Meeting Spot: Park in the southernmost part of the parking lot and walk down to the gate on Myrtle Avenue, across from Cooper Gulch Park. You’ll likely see the work area as you approach the gate. If not, come through the gate and look around. The site is small, and we won’t be hard to find.
Date & Time
Sunday, February 1, 202610:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Feel free to arrive late or leave early. Come for whatever time you can give.
Weather Policy
We will cancel if it rains. If that happens, a notice will be posted on the RIPE website, and we will also contact anyone we know is planning to attend on the morning of the event.
What We’ll Be Doing
Our main activity will be girdling large, fruiting infestations of invasive ivy on trees. Ivy can severely damage and even kill mature trees, so this work is critical for protecting forest health and preventing further spread.
What to Bring
We’ll provide tools and safety equipment, but it really helps if you can bring your own. Please also bring:
Thick, long-sleeved clothing
Water
Gloves (if you have them)
Kid-Friendly?
This event is not kid-friendly due to the tools and type of work involved.
We hope you’ll join us for a few hours of meaningful, on-the-ground environmental protection. Your time and energy make a real difference for Humboldt’s forests.
