On September 17 at 10 a.m., the Far Northern Regional group of the Power in Nature coalition will be hosting a webinar featuring California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) Deputy Secretary for Biodiversity and Habitat Meghan Hertel and Policy Fellow Jessica Bolivar.
At this webinar, we will learn about gaps and opportunities for 30x30 in the Far Northern Regional counties. This webinar will start out with some stage setting from Secretary Hertel on what 30x30 is and how lands are classified as 30x30 via what is called a GAP code system.
After participants are able to learn more about the state’s classification system and what 30x30 generally is, we will then dive into the weeds a bit more.
In the last 30x30 Progress Report, CNRA set out to contact each of the 58 counties in the state about opportunities to add locally or regionally managed lands to the 30x30 goal. This caused many counties to consider ways to increase management or durable protections on their lands. During this presentation, we will learn about the specific lands identified during this process that are opportunities for the 30x30 initiative, if they had increased protections.

Power in Nature is a coalition of just under 300 community and environmental NGOs, land trusts, and tribal organizations, all working together to further 30x30 in California. 30x30 is an initiative to conserve 30% of land and coastal waters by the year 2030.
