Beavers in the Yolla Bolly Mountains?

You might think you know California's wildlife history. Gold rush, grizzly bears, condors — sure. But beavers in the Yolla Bolly Mountains?

Join us on Monday, April 20th, from 5–7 PM for a free presentation by researcher Tom Keter on the surprisingly dramatic history of beavers in Northern California's Yolla Bolly Mountains.

It turns out these industrious little engineers may have been quietly going about their business in the high country long before anyone thought to look, and were probably trapped to near-extinction before biologists even got around to asking whether they'd ever been there at all.

Tom will walk us through the historical record, the fur trade era's frenzied "beaver rush" to California, and the intriguing evidence suggesting that a small population may have survived.

You can catch the presentation in person at Redwood Lodge, 490 E Park Road, Arcata, CA, or join via Zoom
