The Environmental Protection Information Center (EPIC) is the region’s largest environmental advocacy group. Since 1977, we have protected the forests, watersheds, and wildlife of Northwest California’s ecosystems, using an integrated, science-based approach, combining public education, citizen advocacy, and strategic litigation.

California has committed to protecting 30% of its lands by 2030, modeling its commitment on the international 30x30 movement. To achieve this goal, conservation advocates from around the state are partnering together through the “Power in Nature” coalition to identify and prioritize high-value lands for protection and restoration. The North Coast 30x30 Organizer (“Organizer”) will work with EPIC staff and partners from the Power in Nature coalition to identify and champion conservation projects through the 30x30 movement.

The Organizer will accomplish this by developing and sustaining relationships with other non-profit organizations, Native American tribal nations, local governments, and other interested stakeholders along the North Coast. The Organizer will regularly conduct outreach, including in-person outreach, to gather information regarding the lands and waters of the North Coast that are the best fits for conservation under 30x30, and help ensure that the North Coast is well-represented within the Power in Nature coalition and with the State as the 30x30 process unfolds.

The Organizer will act as a hub for the North Coast and be directly responsible for helping to select and advocate for 30x30 projects with State agencies. This will also entail educating the public about 30x30 and the benefits of conservation by writing blog posts, social media posts, and other public facing materials. We are looking for a candidate who cares passionately about conservation and ensuring that historically underrepresented communities are represented within the environmental movement.

  • Develop and sustain relationships with a variety of partners, particularly Native American tribal nations.

  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings of diverse groups to find points of consensus.

  • Develop and implement campaign plans.

  • Track conservation topics before local and state government bodies.

  • Advocate for conservation priorities before decision-makers.

  • Communicate with EPIC members and the general public about conservation topics through a variety of media, including social media, radio, and print.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.

  • Previous experience as field organizer is preferred.

  • Preference for English-Spanish bilingual candidates.

  • Organized and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Understanding of modern topics in environmental conservation.

  • Previous experience working with Native American communities is preferred.
