Contempt for the Golden Ruling: PL Faces Contempt Charges Charles Hurwitz's Pacific Lumber has never been known for respecting the law, but on August 30, their lawless logging reached a whole new level. The day before, Judge John Golden had issued a "Stay" Order that directed the company to halt logging operations on 210,000 acres of land. The chainsaws were far from silenced, however, and deep in Humboldt County's forests, an army of chainsaws roared.

more) Where Ocean and Mountains Collide: New King Range Management Plan on the Horizon The King Range rises above the Pacific to a peak of 4,000 feet, offering stunning ocean views and a rare backcountry experience on the U.S. coastline. In 1970, Congress created the King Range Conservation Area to put the area in public hands under the management of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The BLM is now updating its long-range management plan for the area and soliciting public "scoping" comments to help determine its direction.
