An EPIC "Thank You"
LNG Victory Reflects Our Amazing Community

You Inspire Us and Make Us Proud!

Calpine's decision to abandon its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on Humboldt Bay is a resounding victory for our community, demonstrating that effective citizen action really can change the world for the better.

This victory was possible only because so many people came together and contributed, united in their commitment to seeing a brighter vision for Humboldt Bay. EPIC would like to send a sincere, heart-felt "thank you" to everyone who helped make it happen--meaning everyone who wrote a letter or made a call, collected signatures on petitions, came to a meeting, contributed funds, and/or talked to their friends or neighbors.

And while there's no way to include a list of all the individuals and organizations that contributed to this success, we'd like to specifically name a few of the shining stars, including:

LNG Watch/Mike Buettner
Fairhaven Residents Assoc.
Eureka Homeowners Committee
Northcoast Environmental Center
Humboldt Fisheries Marketing Assoc.
Sierra Club, Redwood Chapter, N. Group
Redwood Alliance
Seventh Generation Fund
Humboldt Watershed Council
Ecological Rights Foundation
Californians for Alternatives to Toxics
California Native Plant Society
Marion Nina Amber
Anne White
David and Penny Elsebusch
Scott Willits
Mayor Bob Ornelas, City of Arcata

The dark cloud of LNG had a bright silver lining: it left our community better informed, more engaged in local politics, and empowered. It also helped forge new friendships and create and strengthen alliances. EPIC looks forward to working with our new and old allies and friends to pursue a sustainable, locally- and ecologically-based future for our children and Humboldt Bay.
