EPIC Supporters Speak Out

Dear EPIC,

Enclosed is my donation and I ask that I be made a member of EPIC.

I was a witness for the North Coast Regional Water Board at the recent hearing before the State Water Board on Pacific Lumberšs [Palco's] logging plans for the "Hole in the Headwaters." (I work for the San Francisco Bay Water Board, and I was describing what other regional boards do) I have been following the Headwaters issue from afar for many years, but I had never seen the Palco Department of Forestry team up close. It gave me a new appreciation of the industry you are up against.

The Palco crew reminds me of the oil refineries in the Bay Area 30 years ago: arrogant, used to getting their way, and used to buying their way out of trouble. Today the refineries have finally accepted that they must play by the rules, and if they donšt, the community will be glad to live without them. I am sure that things will change in the timber industry, too.

I wish you well in a daunting job. You will prevail.

Yours truly,

Larry Kolb
Oakland, CA
