Jordan Creek Landslides
( 3 Photos)
These disastrous slides, originating on Pacific Lumber clearcuts, buried a mile of productive salmon habitat under a torrent of debris 15 feet deep and up to 250 feet wide.  The stream channel was destroyed all the way downstream, even through the ancient groves of Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Far right photo: This area was classifed by the California Department of Forestry, which approved the clearcut plan, as posing a "moderate" erosion hazard.
