Mad Water Grab

"One thing I hadn't thought about was NAFTA (the North American Free Trade Agreement) and trade issues."
Carol Rische
General Manager Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District

In January 2003, the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District announced it is negotiating a proposal with Aqueous, Inc. that would export millions of gallons of water each day from the Mad River using tugboats and 800-foot long inflatable bags--the size of three football fields. Each bag would transport approximately 15 million gallons of water each day down the Pacific Coast to locations that have not yet been revealed. This plan sets a dangerous stage for the future of Northern California, with the privatization of water, NAFTA, and significant environmental concerns all at the center.

EPIC has joined with numerous other organizations in the Coalition to Stop the Mad Water Grab, and we urge everyone to help us in ensuring that this water stays right where it belongs.
