Attend Water Board Hearings--Show Support for Watershed-Wide Waste Discharge Requirements

Action Needed by April 21, 2006

The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board (Water Board) has scheduled two hearing dates for review of the new Watershed-Wide Waste Discharge Requirements (WWWDRs), on April 24th in Eureka and on May 8th in Santa Rosa.

To register for a spot on the public comment roster, use the link below to notify Jean Lockett or call her at 707-576-2307.

EPIC has been working towards the adoption of more stringent standards for evaluation of the impact of timber harvest plans on water quality in impaired watersheds, notably those of Elk River and Freshwater Creek. These new requirements are finally being considered by the Water Board, and review of the analysis done by the Water Board staff, along with opportunity for public comment, will be presented at two public hearings.

The first hearing, at which public comment will be scheduled PRIOR to the staff presentation, will be held:
Monday, April 24th, 2006 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Veterans Memorial Building
10th and H Streets
Eureka, CA

The second hearing, at which we expect a decision by the Water Board to be made regarding the adoption of the WWWDRs, will be held:
Monday, May 8th, 2006, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Fountain Grove Inn and Conference Center
Camelot Room
101 Fountaingrove Parkway
Santa Rosa, CA

The public has only a two-hour slot to speak at the April 24th hearing. Those who wish to offer a three-minute comment must sign up with Jean Lockett PRIOR to the hearing. Only those who have pre-registered will be put on the list for making public comment the day of the hearing. Pacific Lumber will undoubtedly show up in full strength to oppose the new, stricter requirements.

Please plan to attend and register for a spot on the public comment roster. You may use the form below to notify Jean Lockett or call her at 707-576-2307.
