scott1Scott Greacen came to EPIC from Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Ore., the best environmental law program in the U.S., where he eventually earned a J.D. cum laude. His undergraduate degree is from Reed College, another Portland school that counts a number of distinguished alumni working in environmental fields today.

Scott originally joined EPIC as National Forest Program Coordinator, with responsibilities for a wide range of issues across the four national forests in northwest California that are managed under the Northwest Forest Plan. Scott’s interest in and engagement with public lands issues has covered large chunks of the American West over the last two decades.

Arguably, this all started with childhood trips to the Chiricahua Mountains and Mongollon Rim in Arizona, but it really took root when Scott joined the Oregon Natural Resources Council (now Oregon Wild) as an assistant to conservation director Andy Kerr at the height of what many now call the Timber Wars, just as the Northern Spotted Owl was being listed under the Endangered Species Act. Nearly 20 years later, Scott is still fighting to protect the remaining old growth forests on America’s public lands.
